This American Life
Monty Python's Flying Circus
McSweeney's Internet Tendency
Don't tell anyone, but The OOW has the biggest crush on McSweeney's Internet
Tendency. The OOW wants to marry it and have lots of witty little babies with
huge vocabularies and degrees in creative writing.
You should go here! No dogs will explode. Hot robot porn.
Every week, This American Life assembles stories--documentaries, fiction, or
"something else"--and shapes them into an hour-long radio program centered on
a single theme. You can find the show, supported by Public Radio International,
on your local NPR station, or you can listen to almost all the shows online via
RealAudio. We think TAL is one of the smartest, funniest, and most thoughtful
pieces of journalism around. We'd marry them but we're afraid it would ruin
the friendship.
The Onion
It's The Onion! On the web! Who could ask for more? For our less worldly readers, The Onion is a satirical newspaper much like the OUMMCBNOM. Not quite equal in quality, of course, but very close. One can only hope that they will someday sharpen their wit upon the stone of the OOW.
(Note: The Onion has some very intrusive ads.)
We visited a number of Monty Python sites, and this one takes the cake. Or at least most of the cake. It may not be much to look at, but it will direct you to scripts, sounds, pictures, and all else Monty Python your little heart could desire without making your little body nauseous.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Megadodo Publications
A site devoted to the writings of Douglas Adams, author of such books as The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, and The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
Sites That Don't Exist Anymore but Should
Pulsar the Ultimate Man of Adventure
Meet Pulsar, the best see-through action figure to come out of the 70's. For mature audiences only, please.
The Tick
When we deign to watch television, The Tick is one of our very favorite programs. See our review in Volume x, number x. Okay, okay, we never wrote the review. But we meant to, and it would have been good.
If any of these links does not work, or offends you terribly, please write and tell us. And yes, this is a clever ploy to get more letters.
